Canine Inspections
PestPro's newest weapon in bed bug detection is also man's best friend. Dogs are known for their keen sense of smell and can detect odors 10,000 times better than humans can. For this reason, dogs have become a tremendous asset in the early detection of bed bugs. Our canine detective "Jack" has gone through hundreds of hours of intense training to locate and alert when he discovers the scent signature of bed bugs. Jack has been trained by Master Trainer David Latimer of FSI Canine. Jack has been certified by WDDO, World Detector Dog Organization. This not-for-profit organization has high qualifying standards and they strive to put forth the highest quality for both the customer and canine team.
Our services
• Proactive Inspections – Customized inspections of your property to find or rule out the presence of bed bugs. These inspections can be scheduled monthly or quarterly based on the property.
-
• Targeted Inspections – These are targeted to a specific room, floor, or other area where activity is suspected.
-
• Post Treatment Inspections – These inspections can be done to ensure the effectiveness of the bed bug treatment. This can be done for our treatments or other companies.
Our protocol
Our goal is to visually verify any positive dog alerts. This key point is to ensure Jack is working properly and to determine the degree of infestation. Canine detectives are a tool in the bed bug battle and must be used properly!
A trained handler will accompany Jack wherever he goes. The handler is responsible for directing the dogs search, visually verify alerts, and report the search results.
Jack has the ability to detect bed bugs hiding in cracks, crevices, clothing, and clutter. He is extremely accurate and can thoroughly inspect a room in minutes.
Be proactive!
Bed bug dogs can detect low-level infestations effectively and efficiently. Bed bugs will actively spread throughout a structure if the population continues to grow without detection. Early detection leads to lower treatment costs.
The lodging industry
The lodging industry is being hit hard by the bed bug epidemic. Hotel managers often find themselves on the defense when guests complain about bed bug bites and their room being infested. A proactive inspection plan should be in place. Our plan was created to provide a structured inspection schedule as this will reduce the risk exposure and provide documentation to management.
If bed bugs are located, we will visually verify the alert and schedule a Thermal Remediation Treatment within 48 hours. Our team will handle all room preparation and cleanup; housekeeping will only have to remake the bed. The remediated room can be put back online 24 hours after treatment. With pesticide applications, rooms were blocked "out" for two weeks! This quick turn around by our professional bed bug team will ensure that your rooms are back generating revenue quickly.

Preparing for K-9 bed bug inspections
Some of the preparation items only pertain to residential inspections and are not relevant for the lodging industry:
• Remove pets from living area or place in the bathroom prior to inspection.
• Remove bed linens and furniture covers (for residential clients only).
• Empty trash containers.
• Turn off all fans and air conditioners.
• Vacuum all floors. We don't want Jack distracted by crumbs!
• Move all furniture two feet away from walls. This will allow room for Jack and his handler to maneuver.

Jack is alerting to the scent of bed bugs in this chair. When he alerts, he sits and points to the scent with his nose.

Jack and his handler Jon make up a certified K-9 team.
